August Writing:
We are practicing our handwriting! Please make help by encouraging your student to always start at the top when forming letters! We will also be starting our first writing project. We will be learning about adjectives (describing words). Once we understand what an adjective is, we will come up with adjectives to describe ourselves.

September Writing:
We are working on writing sentences. A sentence is a group of words connected by an idea. It's important for first graders to distinguish between a letter, a word, a sentence and text (or a group of sentences).
Challenge your our child to use one or two spelling or sight words to cone up with a sentence or two each night!

Quarter 2 Writing: Narrative
Narrative writing is our genre this term. We will be learning how to sequence events with the words "first, next, then and last". You can practice this at home by telling your child stories using the same words! You can also use this vocabulary when asking them to complete tasks.
"First, you need to pick up your toys. Next, I would like you to change in to your pajamas. Then brush your teeth. Last, we can read a bedtime story."
